Ban Suarez after the World Cup, urges Zyryanov

Ex-Russia midfielder Konstantin Zyryanov says wild Luis Suarez should be banned if found guilty of biting, but only after the World Cup.

Liverpool forward Suarez hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons as Uruguay and Italy battled it out for second spot in Group D on Tuesday.

The South Americans ultimately won 1-0, but the match will not be remembered for the scoreline after Suarez appeared to bite the shoulder of Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini late in the second half.

Suarez has been in trouble before, as he bit PSV Eindhoven s Otman Bakkal in 2010 and was banned for sinking his teeth into the arm of Chelsea s Branislav Ivanovic in 2013.

If found guilty of the offence again, Zyryanov believes FIFA must suspend Suarez from the game, although he fe…

Massimiliano Allegri wants immediate response from ‘angry’ Juve to shock defeat

Massimiliano Allegri has called on his “angry” Juventus squad to return to winning ways when they host high-flying Lecce.

Juventus missed the chance to go top of Serie A on Saturday after they slumped to a surprise 4-2 defeat at Sassuolo.

The Bianconeri had claimed 10 points from an unbeaten start, but came unstuck at the Mapei Stadium as Sassuolo battled to a second league win.

“Tomorrow we have to get back to winning ways to immediately move on from the bad loss to Sassuolo,” said Allegri.

“The team are angry and sorry for what happened, but at the same time they’re motivated. There’s a real desire to get back on the pitch as soon as possible.

“We had a bad night,…

Allegri assures Juventus on ´right path´ with Champions League football almost secured

Massimiliano Allegri declared Juventus are on the right path after a difficult season as they edge closer to securing Champions League qualification.

Juve are eight points clear of fifth-placed Roma with four games left to play in Serie A as the Bianconeri prepare to host Venezia on Sunday.

Coach Allegri returned to Turin for the 2021-22 season and endured a difficult start to the campaign, but recovered with a 16-game unbeaten league run that ended in a 1-0 defeat to Inter earlier in April.

That undefeated streak somewhat eased the pressure on Allegri and Juve, who crashed out of the Champions League at the last-16 stage following a dismal second-leg performance against Villarreal.

Juve president Andrea Agnelli expressed his support on Thursday for the…

Marseille´s Garcia dismisses Strootman reunion rumours

Marseille head coach Rudi Garcia has quashed speculation linking him with a move for Kevin Strootman and insists the club hope to keep hold of Lassana Diarra.

Strootman played under Garcia at Roma from 2013 until the coach s departure in January, a period in which the Netherlands international struggled with a long-running knee injury.

Garcia, who guided Lille to the Ligue 1 title in 2010-11, remains an admirer of the 26-year-old, but dismissed any chance of the midfielder following him to Stade Velodrome.

Strootman is a fantastic man beyond being a fantastic player, of course I would welcome him with open arms, but he will stay in Rome, he told Telefoot.

Marseille are also rumoured to be facing a battle to keep former Arsenal and Real Madrid midfiel…

Fulham 0-2 Chelsea: What Were The Main Talking Points As The Blues Claim A Crucial Boost At Craven Cottage?

With all eyes falling on Craven Cottage on Monday night, Chelsea picked up west London bragging rights and a welcomed boost as they landed a 2-0 victory against Fulham.

Watching Mykhaoli Mudryk finally open his Chelsea account with a slick finish in the 18th minute, Mauricio Pochettino’s side quickly doubled their lead as the returning Armando Broja capitalised on some sloppy Fulham defending just seconds on.

Picking up just their second Premier League victory of the season here, Chelsea also produced what will be regarded as a season-best display at Craven Cottage.

Not really having to get out of second gear here, Fulham will be disappointed by a flat performance on home soil.

Failing to create any real opportunities against a Chelsea squad that have …

Souness: Klopp needs Liverpool silverware to be successful

Graeme Souness insists Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp must win a trophy in order to be viewed as a success at Anfield.

The Reds are enjoying a fine season as they sit third in the Premier League and remain in contention in Europe.

Klopp masterminded a superb 3-0 win over Manchester City in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final on Wednesday, but Souness says playing attractive football is not enough for a club of Liverpool s stature.

Not at all. Not for professionals. No good finishing second, third, qualifying for Champions League, he told Omnisport, while speaking at an event organised by One Family and the Ian Rush Foundation.

I know the money men in any club would be happy just qualifying for the Champions League, but for the s…

Inspired by Zeman´s return, Pescara hammer Genoa 5-0

Zdenek Zeman enjoyed a hugely successful homecoming at Pescara on Sunday as he orchestrated a 5-0 win over Genoa in his first match back in charge, ending the struggling team s wait for a first on-field victory of the Serie A season.

The 69-year-old was reappointed by Pescara following the dismissal of Massimo Oddo last week, having previously enjoyed a successful spell with the club in 2011-12, when he helped them win promotion to Serie A.

The veteran Czech is in for a tough task now, though, as they look to avoid relegation, with Pescara s only victory in the preceding 24 league games this season coming after they were awarded a 3-0 triumph over Sassuolo when it was found their opponents had fielded an ineligible player in a 2-1 victory.

Zeman made sure he got …

Real Madrid 2 Barcelona 3: Messi settles thrilling Clasico as Barca go top of LaLiga

Lionel Messi scored his 500th Barcelona goal in second-half stoppage time as Barcelona beat 10-man Real Madrid 3-2 in an unbelievable Clasico at Santiago Bernabeu, a victory that puts them top of LaLiga.

Substitute James Rodriguez had scored a dramatic late equaliser that looked like it would give Madrid a draw to put them on the brink of a first league crown since 2012, only for Messi to bring up his milestone with the last kick of the game.

Prior to those late goals, a breathless and controversial contest looked like it would be settled by Ivan Rakitic s excellent strike, especially when Sergio Ramos was sent off for a lunge on Messi.

But James then scored within four minutes of coming off the bench to send the home fans wild, only for Messi to steal the show …

Ajax consider move for Odegaard

According to a recent report from Marca, Dutch giants Ajax have made it known that they’re interested in a potential move for Martin Odegaard. The 20 year old made the move over to the Bernabeu back in 2015, and at the time, his move to the club was highly publicised. He was tipped as being the next big thing, but over the last few years, he hasn’t really been given much of an opportunity to shine in the first team.

Odegaard has more than a dozen appearances for the Norwegian national team, and has also spent loan spells with Heerenveen and Vitesse. Ajax has served as a great ‘proving ground’ club for many young stars over the years, and Odegaard certainly has experience in Dutch football.

If this is going to become a reality, though, it feels like it’d be mor…
