Chelsea capable of swift Sarri adjustment, says Luiz

David Luiz is desperate for Chelsea to make Maurizio Sarri s playing style an instant success in the Premier League.

The Blues have shown positive signs in pre-season but failed to convince in their first competitive outing under the Italian as Manchester City eased to a 2-0 win in the Community Shield.

The result gave Pep Guardiola his third trophy in charge of City, although even the ex-Barcelona boss endured a tough introduction to English football in a barren 2016-17 campaign.

Luiz, though, responded confidently when asked whether a similar period of transition would condemn Chelsea to another season removed from title contention.

I hope not! I hope we can understand it quickly and can fight for all the titles, the Brazil defender told reporters.<…

AS Roma Have Done A Great Job This Summer Despite Malcom’s Episode

Few teams in the Serie A this summer have been as active as AS Roma have been in the transfer market. Roma were tired of playing a secondary role in the league behind Juventus, Napoli and even Inter Milan. Therefore, they wanted to change things during the current transfer window.

Sure, Roma have been all over the news during the past 48 hours for the fiasco related to Malcom. The Brazilian winger seemed set to join Roma, but Barcelona knocked on the door at the last minute and ended signing the Bordeaux star. However, that moment should not define Roma’s transfer window. In fact, the rest of their activity has been very good so far. Let’s take a look at what they have done thus far:

Chelsea respond to pressure with a dominant FA Cup victory at Aston Villa

Chelsea stunned Aston Villa with a 3-1 win to march on in the FA Cup and ease the pressure on Mauricio Pochettino.

Enzo Fernandez’s sensational free-kick added to first-half goals from Conor Gallagher and Nicolas Jackson.

Moussa Diaby’s injury-time strike failed to ruin Chelsea’s night and the Blues now host Leeds in the fifth round.

Having been humbled 4-2 by Wolves and thumped 4-1 by Liverpool in their two previous games there was an expectation Chelsea would lurch further into crisis in their fourth-round replay at Villa Park.

Scholes signs new deal with United

Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes signed a one-year contract extension with the Premier League club on Friday.

The 35-year-old has remained a key member of Alex Ferguson s squad this season even though he is now one of the oldest players at the Old Trafford club.

It had been suggested Scholes might retire at the end of this season if he played a reduced role, but Ferguson has used the former England international enough to persuade him to stay.

We are delighted Paul is staying on for another year, Ferguson said.

His form this year indicates his ability and his enjoyment of the game are as strong as ever, that s every reason to stay on.

There was talk about him wanting to retire, but when you see his enjoyment in training and playing yo…

Both teams to score at Portsmouth vs Oxford United 5/6 for Friday’s League One play-off tie

Market: Both teams to score

Odds:

In what could be a lively contest on the South Coast this week, Portsmouth will welcome a free-scoring Oxford to Fratton Park on Friday evening.

Starting with the hosts, last seen back in March when playing out a 2-2 draw with Fleetwood at Fratton Park, the Blues will be looking to refined their touch when they make a return this week. Eventually having to settle for a play-off spot after collecting just 10 points out of a possible 21 over their last seven League One matchups, they hade managed to land just a sole clean sheet in any of their previous seven matchups across all competitions and had shipped a pair of strikes in their last three contests on the bounce. However, there is no doubt that Head Coach Kenny Jackett should…
